The Cheap and Trendy Samsung M2310
Very few mobile phones are as well made as the Samsung M2310. On first look, the phone is nothing beyond your ordinary GSM device with music playback capabilities. The special thing about this phone is that it does its job so well that it practically sets the new standard on how a basic GSM device should function.
This phone is a 2G, quad-band, clamshell phone with an extra screen, speaker and a reasonable price tag. Even better is the fact that the phone looks really good too. From its lines, to its colors, the M2310 is a very trendy gadget worth having around when visual appeal matters more than hardware specs.
Basic Specifications: Dimensions and Network
The phone comes in a very compact form; when the clamshell is closed, the phone is only 93 x 45 x 17.6 mm big. While some might argue that the 17.6mm is too thick to grasp properly, this is a clamshell device that is meant to be opened when used; when flipped open, the device becomes very thing and easy to hold. The 85 gram weight is very light, by all phone standards. You can slide this phone into your bag or sling it on your neck without worry about the added weight.
The phone also comes with the standard 2G quad-band support you will find in almost all GSM devices. The phone can connect to GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 networks without any problems. 2G networks have the advantage of being fairly common and accessible in and out of the UK making a little more versatile than 3G. For going online, users may choose between the EDGE network and using GPRS. GPRS is more common, but it is also a lot slower. EDGE can give you a fast connection but it is limited in availability.
2 Displays and 1 Extra Speaker
As a music phone, the Samsung M2310 comes with a very practical music player that can handle a wide variety of music file types (Mp3, eAAC+, WMA) and it even has dedicated music keys so that users can access music with just one press of the button. There is a large speaker on the front of the clamshell that provides good quality audio. The digital quality of music is improved with the use of DNSe technology.
The phone utilizes a pair of display screen in order to keep users up to date with relevant information. The 1 inch CSTN screen on the front uses a 96 x 96 pixel display to give users a quick heads up of current phone functions such as music playback, battery information, time and other info. The larger screen inside is used for standard phone functions; it's a 2 inch TFT screen, 176 x 220 pixels of resolution with a color display capability of 256 thousand colors.
Battery Capacity
The 800 mAh lithium ion battery is a little low-capacity for most people, but the phone does a great job of managing the energy. It will stay alive on standby for about 350 hours and will deliver a good straight 7 hours and 30 minutes of talk time.
