You'll need a few things to get started, and the first is a subscriber unit, or a WiMAX gateway. These will effectively harness the WiMAX signal for your home or laptop computer. There are already several different models of subscriber units from which to choose, depending on your individual needs.
Your first choice is an indoor model that is meant to be placed close to a window. These are effective if you live close to the cell tower that is transmitting the WiMAX signal. This WiMAX gateway is about the size of your current Internet router, but there are no wires required. If you live further away from the cell tower, you can still benefit from the signal. You will, however, need the outdoor model that must be professionally installed on the roof of your home. For those that choose to use laptops, you can have the subscriber unit embedded into your laptop, or you can purchase a USB dongle. With any one of these WiMAX gateways, you're ready to join the fourth generation.
